A Note From President Rita - December
It’s the end of the trimester already
and we will be doing Trimester Voting at the December meeting.
Looks like we have a number of
events coming up in January and
February for members to chair and
attend. If any of you have ideas for
service projects, fundraisers or socials that you would like to have on
the calendar, please bring them to
the Board or bring them up at the
meeting. We would like to have activities that members want to attend.
Winter State Convention will be in
St. Louis Park, January 24-25th. The
theme is Denim and Diamonds, so
bring your BLING! There is bed
space, if anyone wants to come and
spend 1 or 2 nights at the hotel.
Treat yourself to a mini vacation,
enjoy the convention activities,
spend some time in the pool, party
with other Women of Today and
bring home memories. Applications
can be picked up at December
meeting or accessed from
MNWT.org. Come for part or all of
the events and see what happens at
convention. There are several items
being collected for non-profits to
be brought to convention. Dacmart
needs used clean blue jeans to
make rugs, the Boys and Girls
Clubs need deodorants for the
youth and Sweet Dreams wants new
pajamas for children in hospitals.
Participation is completely up to
members and items will be collected at our December Meeting or
they can be brought to convention,
if you’re attending.

A Note From President Rita - November
I am excited to tell you that our State President Cat
Schumann will be attending our November 25th meeting. The meeting will start at
6:30 so we have time to give to our guests. Along with Cat, we will have State
Program Managers for Living & Learning, Wishes & More and Youth of
Today attending to give a little information about their programming areas.
Also attending from Monticello is their State Delegate who is doing a visit
with Cat. The busy Holiday Season is upon us. Thanksgiving is coming up quickly
and we all have so much to be thankful for. I am thankful for the many friends
I have made in Women of Today all around the State and all of those members who
have supported me over the years in whatever area I have chosen to serve. I
encourage you to start thinking about the positions in our organization and
where your interests are. There are also many service projects and fun events
coming up in the next 5 weeks and some postholiday events in 2020 are in the
works as well. Check out the calendar and see what is coming up! Feel free to
invite friends and family to join us. We will be baking cookies, singing at the
Ambassador, serving food to the kids at Crisis Nursery and partying with our
friends at the Holiday potluck on December 16th .

made scarves. All of the items will be given free of charge to people in need of warmth. Way to go!!! Thank You !
Anyone can drop off additional items at any of our general meetings.

Christmas Cards for Ambassador Nursing Home
If you have some new and extra Christmas cards,
please bring them to our November general meeting. The cards will be by signed by members. It would be fun if some of our youth (kids and
grandkids) could also write a short message inside the cards. We will be delivering these cards to the residents when
we go to sing and visit in December. It really warms your heart to experience the caroling!

A Note from President Rita - October
The Women of Today Organization, has had several name changes since its start 70 years ago.
Originally it was part of the Jaycee’s Organization, it has helped
women to improve their lives and
find their places in society over
those many years. At Winter State
Convention in January, we will be
celebrating the 70th Anniversary of
our great organization. Please try
to join us for this celebration at
the Doubletree in St. Louis Park.
More information will follow in the
upcoming newsletters.
If all goes well, the State Program
Manager for Living and Learning,
Sarah Sundine and President Cat
will be joining us at the November
meeting and we will be starting the
meeting at 6:30 both in November
and December when we have our
Holiday party. I hope members will
come with support and questions.
Don’t forget Make a Difference
Day is October 26th, where millions
of volunteers will unite in a common mission!

NHWT Ways and Means Fundraiser
BUTTER BRAIDS
The Butter Braid order form will be emailed to chapter members around the 18th of September so that members can share the information electronically with friends and relatives. There will also be paper copies of the order form at the September meeting. Our chapter will receive 40% of each item sold and this money will be used to help fund our ways and means account (yearly expenses). The sale will continue until November 4th , when orders and money will need to be turned in. The Butter Braids are an incredible treat for your guests over the holidays and can be kept frozen for many months. The orders will arrive at my home on Friday, November 15th and should be picked up as soon as possible, because they have to be kept frozen. Contact Rita with questions or to place an order (zucarita@comcast.net).

Cooper Craft Fair Volunteers Needed
Fall is quickly approaching, which means the Cooper Craft Fair (CCF) is just
around the corner! It’s always the last Saturday of October. This year it’s on
the 26th.
For those of you who’ve never heard of or been to the CCF, it’s a large arts & crafts fair made up of 140-160 crafters who sell only handmade goods. 40% of the proceeds go to the Lavon H Cooper scholarship fund, usually equaling $4,500-$5,500, that’s dispersed to about 8-10 graduates of a District 281 high school. The CCF is at Cooper High School and is going on its 47th year!
We require about 24 volunteers to help set up on Friday night and 30 during the event. Please sign up for a shift, if you haven’t already, via the SignUpGenius. Also, I’ll be looking for someone to shadow me to take over my position on the CCF Committee. My role in the committee is scholarship oversight and volunteer recruitment. Please let me know if you’re interesting in being a part of the committee. It would involve shadowing me at our follow-up meetings after this year’s fair, learning the tasks involved in my position, and shadowing me at next year’s fair.
Thanks, Merrin B

A Note from President Rita ~ September
Not sure what is going on with the
weather. But fall seems to be here
early. I find myself wanting a cup
of hot cider with cinnamon or a
nice big hot chocolate with
whipped cream! FYI, Country
Kitchen has an incredible bottomless cup of Hot Chocolate! I am
looking forward to all the fun
activities we have in the works. I
hope you all will find time to
attend some of these activities. I
look forward to all the new events
our members will put together for
us this fall and winter.
