April Note from President Carrie
Happy Spinter?
I have been waiting and waiting for
some good weather! I really wish I
could enjoy the colder weather.
It’s just not in my bones, and I’m
Scandinavian! So I’ve rewritten this
probably 5 times now, and I feel
like I just can’t get out what I want
to say...so, short and sweet it is.
Thank you so much for a
wonderful year. Thank you for your
support this year. I can’t wait to
see what our chapter does next
year!
Here’s hoping summer arrives
soon!!

Twitter This!
A Tweet may contain photos, GIFs, videos, links, and text. The screen will look different depending on
what platform you are using (android, apple, personal computer, etc.)
How to Tweet.
Someone else Tweet that you share publicly is known as a Retweet. This is a great way to pass along news and interesting discoveries on Twitter. You have the option to add your own comments before Retweeting. When using Twitter's Retweet icon, your Retweet or Quote Tweet will reference the Tweet you are sharing. When someone replies to your Retweet, the author of the original Tweet will not be automatically added to the conversation. If you want to include the author of the original Tweet, you will need to mention their username. In addition to sharing other’s Tweets on Twitter, you can Retweet your own Tweet. This function is particularly useful when you want to re-post one of your older Tweets because it is relevant again.
How to use hashtags.
When you sign up for Twitter, your Tweets are public by default. Public Tweets, are visible to anyone, whether or not they have a Twitter account. Protected Tweets, may only be visible to your Twitter followers. Should you choose to protect your Tweets, you can do so through your account settings.
How to Tweet.
- Type your Tweet into the compose box at the top of your Home timeline, or click the Tweet button in the top navigation bar.
- You can include up to 4 photos, a GIF, or a video in your Tweet. Click the Tweet button to post the Tweet to your profile

- A hashtag—written with a # symbol—is used to index keywords or topics. This function was created on Twitter, but has crossed over and can now be used all over the world of social medial, including YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
- People use the hashtag symbol (#) before a relevant keyword or phrase in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets and help them show more easily in Twitter search. Our chapter hashtag is #NHWT
- Clicking or tapping on a hashtagged word in any (social media) message shows you other Tweets that include that hashtag. Hashtags can be included anywhere in a Tweet.

A March Note from President Carrie
Hello ladies!
How is it mid March already?! Not that I mind, because that means planting season is upon us! While I have been thinking of my veggie garden and all the pretty flowers I want to grow, I'm also thinking of how can we grow our chapter. How can we get that spark back to do more for our community? I can't do it alone, nor can the board. We need you! We need your ideas, big or small. It doesn't hurt to try something new! When you do, you usually end up learning new things! While I'm on the topic of new things.... Have you ever considered a board position? We need you!! We are hoping to get some new members on the board. It's really hard to run a chapter without a board! So please, please think about taking that little step outside your comfort zone...I did!! It has been a true learning experience for me, and opened my eyes towards personal development. We are having a late start (time got away from us!!) in recruiting, and we should have a new board ready to go at our APRIL meeting....so lets get our chapter growing, in membership and in personal growth. Lets finish the year out strong!
Much love, Carrie

MNWT Foundation
What the MNWT Foundation can do for US.
#1 Chapter Grants. Do you have a community project that your chapter would like to fund, but lack money? Consider applying for a Chapter Grant. Applications can be found on the Foundation page of the website.
#2 Outstanding Awards. The MNWT Foundation is pleased to fund the Outstanding Young Adult Scholarships and Women Who Impact Awards given at Winter State each year. These monetary awards are made possible through fundraising and the generous donations from chapters, districts and members.
#3 Cheryl L. Anderson Scholarship. Cheryl was a member of the Anoka Women of Today for 9 years. She served her chapter and the state organization in many positions including President of the Key Women Club. She was an art teacher and unfortunately passed away in 1989. One of Cheryl’s unfulfilled goals was to return to school and further her education in school counseling. Her goal lives on in this scholarship.
#4 Straight River Scholarship. This scholarship is funded by the Straight River Women of Today. Their chapter consists of members who have physical and developmental challenges. They run many of the same fundraising projects as other chapters do. This scholarship is for the members who are furthering their education in an area to help those who are physically or mentally challenged.
#5 Tax Deductible Donations. Looking for a way to receive a tax deductible Donation? Have an organization or community group who would like to make a tax deductible donation to your chapter? Filter your funds through the MNWT Foundation. The MNWT Foundation charges a minimal 1% fee for this service.
For more information on any of the services the Foundation offers please email: foundation@mnwt.org

A February Note from President Carrie
“Being kind does not have to cost a thing.
Words are free, smiles are free, actions
are free.”. – theodysseyonline.com
This past Friday as I was getting ready for
convention, I had to make a stop and
change roles from adult leader to Girl
Scout leader. I was meeting with my coleader
to go over stuff for our Monday
meeting. As I was leaving Caribou; rushed
because I had other things to finish up, a
woman approached me. At first, I couldn’t
understand her, then she took a
breath and calmed down. I learned she
was driving in from Chicago with her little
girl, having just left an abusive relationship
and was trying to get to Bloomington,
but made a wrong turn and was now
almost out of gas. Did I have any money
to spare?
Money to spare? I don’t work, so any funny
money I get I covet and horde away
(yet I still don’t seem to spend it on me!).
I had money on me for convention, but I
couldn’t whip that out in front of her. I
got nervous, my co leader had bolted to
her car. It was just me…what could I do?
So, I asked her to hold on a minute, and
walked to my car. At least I felt a bit safer
there as I was looking around, it was
10am in the Walgreens parking lot, cars
and people everywhere. She followed, but
never made a move towards my car. I dug
a ten-dollar bill out of my small horde
and walked it back to her. She almost
started crying and gave me a hug…I
thought she wasn’t going to let go!
I started thinking about the…What if’s.
What if that had been me? Would I
have the courage to go up to a complete
stranger and ask for help? I can
barely talk to people I know in public
situations. This small act of kindness
made a difference to
her. I wished her
well and she went
on her way. Our
paths will probably
not pass again.
While my act of
kindness did cost me
ten-dollars, it
doesn’t always have to. Remember to
be kind, the world seems to be lacking
this now days. Share a smile, a kind
word; It needs to start somewhere, and
I’m glad to be part of the kindness
movement!
I hope you have a “kind” day and always
are courageous!
President Carrie
