Metro Dining Cards

By Rita Johnson

New Hope WT will be selling Metro Dining Cards again this year. The cost is the same as last year, over 130 cards, usable every month until May 31, 2024. These cards are good for businesses in the west and southwest metro and give discounts from $5 up to about $15 for the meal BOGOs. This is a great opportunity to try new restaurants.

If you think friends or relatives would benefit from the deals they offer, please share the information. Our chapter receives $10 for each box to help pay for our chapter expenses.

I will bring the cards to the June meeting and you can pick up boxes to sell if you are interested. At this time, there is no cut off date, we will sell until we decide we are done.

What is Founder's Day

The the United States Women of Today (USWT) organization has been celebrating women (and men) working together to help improve their lives and those lives of the people in their communities for over 35 years. Since their inception, our non-profit organization has helped raise over $7.6 million dollars in donations and brought together over seven thousand women who are passionate about making a difference. July 1st is the day we celebrate becoming a national organization.

In 1950, a group of dedicated women formed the Mrs. Jaycees of Minnesota with a mission of community service. Several name and organizational changes occurred over the years, and in July 1985 we became known as the Minnesota Women of Today (MNWT). Our three areas of focus are Community Service, Personal and Professional Growth, and Fellowship. The MNWT organization has brought together people throughout Minnesota who are passionate about improving their lives and the lives of people around them; encouraging young people to become involved and hold positions of leadership; and provides opportunities for all members in the areas of community service, growth and fellowship.

The city of New Hope was incorporated in 1936 when the rural residents of Hope Township broke away from the farming community. On October 14, 1961 the New Hope chapter 1st charted as part of the Mrs. Jaycees and we have been a vital part of the community ever since. The New Hope Women of Today (NHWT) chapter's 1st President under the title of Women of Today was Mary Hudson (1984/1985). Over the years, we have continually focused on supporting our local community, and creating growth opportunities and life long friendships for our members. We celebrate Founder's Day each year with a membership social open to the public. This gives us an opportunity to raise awareness to our local organization, but also meet and share what we love most about the New Hope Chapter. Join us at Bella's in New Hope on July 1st From noon to 2 pm to celebrate Founder's Day 2023.

June Note From President Tawn

Hello chapter members,

Welcome to the new year. I am looking forward to adding some new energy to our chapter this year. I want each of us to look around and ask ourselves, what do I like to do and where do I see myself going in the future.

One of my focuses this year is to identify our future leaders and mentor them. My journey with Women of Today started with a bang. I was just looking for friendship. I found that and so much more. Within 6 months of joining, I became the chapter treasurer. Ever since then I have held some type of leadership position. I have learned so much and would like to be able to share that experience with others.

My second focus is our chapter meetings. I hate long drawn-out meetings. My goal is to keep our meetings to 60 minutes or less. I plan to have as much information printed on the agenda, because we can all read. Each person will have up to 2 minutes to highlight something in their area, or add something that was missed. In order to do this, I will need written reports from everyone a week before each chapter meeting. The remaining time will be used to socialize, do small projects, do fun activities or have committee meetings. Af- ter each chapter meeting, I invite any and all chapter members to join me at Frankie’s for a beverage.

Let’s make this a fun exciting year

Tawn H.
