New Hope WT 5K Update

Registration is now open. Click on the 5K tab to sign up.

Proceeds of the 2016 New Hope WT 5K will go to The 30-Days Foundation (http://www.the30-daysfoundation.orq/), a great MN non-profit.

Our goal at New Hope Women of Today is to not only provide needed funds to our benefiting organizations, but also provide an opportunity for the community to get outside and enjoy the wonderful outdoors, create new healthy lifestyle habits, and have fun.

Children under 12 are FREE, and we will have fun kid activities going on during the race!

3rd Trimester chapter visit

Why did you join?  I was looking for a social and volunteering organization and to meet new people and I saw an ad in the SunPost.

Deb’s Favorite Project: Holiday Shopping w/kids.  Helping less fortunate children and seeing the excitement they have being able to give a few gifts to those they love. Overall a heartwarming experience. 

Flower Sales 2016!

I can not believe I am sitting at my desk in -10 degree weather writing about flower sales. In just a few short weeks you will be receiving an email from me with this years flower sale information. Everything you need will also be available at the February general meeting. I am excited to announce 25% of the profit from this years flower sales will go back to the chapters general fund for the 2016/2017 year and 75% will be donated to the Seven Dreams Education Foundation.

The Seven Dreams Education Foundation is an independent, non-profit 501 (c)(3) education foundation founded by community members, parents and education professionals of Robbinsdale Area Schools. Since SDEF's inception in 2003, the Foundation has funded 127 grants to support student success and maximize individual academic potential. They are dedicated to helping the learners of Robbinsdale Area Schools succeed by funding innovative education initiatives that enhance individual skills and experiences. The "Seven" in their name represents the seven communities in the Robbinsdale Area School District: Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Golden Valley, New Hope, Plymouth and Robbinsdale.

Like years in the past the order forms will be due the end of March and the delivery day for the flowers should be Mother's Day weekend. Please keep your eye out for my email the 2nd week of February and help me sell flowers to support our chapter and the Seven Dreams Education Foundation.

Supporting Breaking Free

January s is the last meeting I will be collecting change during the general meeting however I will still be collecting hygiene products up until the February general meeting where we will present a check and give all the products collected to a breaking free representative.

Reminder I am collecting pads and tampons, toothpaste and tooth brushes, soap or body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, and African American hair care products these items do not have to be full size they can be sample or travel size items. You can bring these items to the general meetings or to my house.

Ways and Means

1. We will collect new or "almost new" clothing. Styles need to be one or two years new. Clothing should be in good condition and fragrance free.

2. We will also collect "do dads" i.e. "collectible items" you no longer want. Clothing and collectible items will be taken to Turn Style - Plymouth or Maple Grove

3. We will collect books in good condition. Books will be taken to Half Price Books for resell.

Outstanding Young Adult Honoree Reception and Banquet

There will be a a reception for our Honoree during winter state convention from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm. The reception is free and open to all members. Please stop by and show our Honoree your support.

Following the reception will be a banquet from 7 pm  - 10 pm. The cost is $47, meal options are Egg Plant Parmesan or Seared Sage Chicken. The registration form can be found in our January newsletter. St. Louis Park is only 10 minutes away. It is highly encouraged that chapter members register for the banquet and celebrate with our honoree.

January Recipe for Wellness!

Here's a fun workout challenge for those looking to get in shape this year!

Pick a workout and set a # to do each day.

For example Bryan has decided I can do 200 squats per day! Maybe for you it is 100 sit-ups or 25 push-ups.

Then try to get them done as fast and as early in the day as possible.

Track your progress — are you finishing them faster and earlier in the day than day 1? GREAT!!

Even better, find a partner to do this with — keep each other accountable and see who can do them faster!

Come to the January general meeting for a fun exercise surprise!

Carole’s Favorite Project: I like it all, we help in many ways, so fun to do it with our group of great women members.

Looking to 2016-2017

It's that time of year when we start to fill our board and LPM positions.

We will need someone to step up to be our next president. If this is something you have thought president you do not need to do everything, just do the best you can. This position is open to all members who have served on the board at least one year. It is open to new members who would like to try something different, members of many years who are finding a little open space in their calendar, members who are ready to take their turn as president, and members who have been president before and would like to do it again.

Everyone in the chapter should be president at least once. It is a great opportunity to get to know all of the other members of the chapter in a new way.

You do not need to have all the answers or even a lot of extra time. Not all presidents make it to every board and/or general meeting. Sometimes life gets crazy and they miss one (or more). Not all presidents can make it to all of the state conventions. If you miss one, we will just send someone to represent you.

If you care about the community and the members of NHWT, you have what it takes to be a great president.

It is not as scary as it looks from the outside. My year as president was a lot of fun. The support I received from the past presidents and other members was amazing. I enjoyed the opportunities given to me. With six children at home, I did not have a lot of time to go to all of the events or do as much as I would have liked. I still had the greatest time doing what I could when I could. Never once did a member make me feel bad I couldn't do more. It's not about doing everything. It's about taking your turn to support our community and chapter.

So, put your 2016-2017 planning hats on and choose what position you would like to help with next year.
