Hagemeister Pond Habitat Restoration

By Rachel Braaten

For the past three years, NHWT has dedicated one day per year to assisting with Crystal's Volunteer Habitat Restoration (Program). This year we are heading to Hagemeister Pond Nature Area on Thursday, July 18th from 6:30pm to 8pm.

We will start the event with a nature walk and interpretation as we go. This has been the most popular portion of the event and if anyone wants to just come for this portion, you are welcome. It takes approximately 10 minutes to walk around the pond and get a feel for what kind of creatures we're trying to help by doing restoration work at this site.

After the nature walk, we will be doing buckthorn removal with weed wrenches (although some buckthorn trees are small enough to be pulled out without a tool and everyone gets to choose how they wish to participate). Gloves will be provided or you can bring your own if you prefer. Another job is to haul the pulled buckthorn trees to the brush pile. They'll be picked up at a later date by staff from the Public Works department.
