A Message from President Tawn, February
Hello Chapter!
I was so proud at convention hearing New Hope mentioned numerous times during the weekend. I am truly amazed at what you as an individual and as a chapter accomplish. I look forward to seeing what you can accomplish in third trimester. If you see a project or a need in our communities, please bring it to the board, so we can help make it happen.
One of the things that we trained on this weekend, was active listening. Here are 10 tips to help you become a better listener.
1. Face the speaker and have eye contact
2. Listen to nonverbal cues, this one can be very difficult
3. Don’t interrupt
4. Listen without judging or jumping to conclusions
5. Don’t start planning what to say next
6. Show you are listening
7. Don’t impose your opinions or solutions
8. Stay focused
9. Ask questions
10. Paraphrase and summarize
I know that I don’t always follow these tips, because old habits are hard to break. I believe that if we all try to follow them, we as a group or as an individual will have better communication in our professional and personal lives.
