Help the New Hope Women of Today fund the Lynn Struck Memorial Bench.

Lynn Struck passed away October 2014 surrounded by her loving family, after battling cancer for 3 years. In her 57 years she touched the hearts and minds of people too numerous to count. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Lynn was an active, contributing member of both civic and religious organizations including mission trips and religious education at the House of Hope.  Lynn had the biggest heart and especially loved kids. She was a home child care provider for many years. She also volunteered her time to help at the Crisis Nursery, Ronald McDonald House, Red Cross Babysitting Clinic, local schools and more! New Hope Women of Today would like to honor Lynn for her many years of faithful service to the community with a bench placed in her honor at Northwood Park. The same park we hold our Ice Cream Socials, Park Play Dates, Duk Duk Daze, and a place where Lynn would push her grandchildren on the swings.

As a 28 year member of the new Hope Women of Today Lynn was instrumental in recruiting new members and ensuring they felt welcome and needed.  She opened up her house for many meetings and social events. Lynn initiated and chaired many projects to benefit our community and worthy causes, such as Duk Duk Daze, benefit dances and wreath sales that helped raise money for PRISM, Home Free, the March of Dimes, the Lupus Foundation, School District 281, and many other charities.  Her giving nature kept her an active member to ensure that our chapter continues to flourish and remain an integral part of this community.  Lynn truly left the world a better place!

Please help us to fund the Lynn Struck Memorial bench to be placed in Northwood Park the summer of 2016. Personal contributions can be sent to Memorial Bench, c/o New Hope Women of Today, PO Box 41592, Plymouth, MN 55441. Checks should be made out to to NHWT, with “Memorial Bench” written in the memo line. Please contact Anna Nichols at Nichols.A@live.com with any questions.

Our sincerest thanks for your support in our efforts to honor Lynn,
New Hope Women of Today

It's Award Nomination Suggestion Time

The New Hope Nomination Committee is looking for your suggestions for this year's award nominations. The categories are; Women Who Impact, Outstanding Young Adult, and Developmental Challenges. There will be nomination forms available at the May and June general meetings. These forms are simple to fill out and by filling them out you are not signing up for any additional work, that's what the committee is for. The committee will select one to three people to nominate based on your suggestions in July. Nomination suggestions do not have to be NHWT members. They can be anyone in our community. If the nomination suggestion you sent in last year was not selected or did not win at a state level, it needs to be suggested again to be considered. I am also looking for a few more members to join the committee. If you are interested, please contact me.

Thanks,
Anna

June Message from our 2015-2016 President

Wow I can hardly believe that it is June already. The kids are out of school ( sob, sob) and the summer activities are in full swing. The flowers that I planted from the flower sale are getting big and add such a bright splash of color. We are so lucky to live in Minnesota. We spend 6-7 months suffering with winter, then in the blink of an eye spring, summer and fall are here. These are truly the days that we live for. Be sure to live them to the fullest.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has stepped up to take a board position, LMP position and a chair position. With out you we could not do all of the wonderful things that we do. I am very excited to see what everyone has up their sleeve this year. If you have ever had a hankering to try a board position, we still have one spot left, that of Membership VP. Please consider stepping up.

Why New Hope Women of Today?

New Hope Women of Today is a non-profit organization that is focused on service, growth (personal), and fellowship.
We have several opportunities to serve New Hope and the surrounding communities each month. We do several projects for the 281 school district, including a scholarship program. We also organize the Kiddie Game and Parade at Duk Duk Daze, along with the Cooper Craft Fair, New Hope WT 5K and highway clean up. On the smaller scale we dobirthday bags for NEAR, bingo at local nursing homes, and many other service projects and fundraisers. We give away over $10,000 each year to other non-profits.
Each year we offer personal enrichment classes for our members and certifications in health and wellness. There are also several opportunities to learn new skills in a non-threatening environment. We encourage personal growth.
Typically we hold two membership events a month. These are great opportunities for members to make new connections and friends. In the past we have done park play dates, walking clubs, craft nights, cards or game nights, socials/happy hours, wine tasting, outlet mall road trips, campfires, and so much more.
The greatest part of our organization is there are no requirements on how much you need to do. It is up to you to decide what projects and events are right for you. Some years you may do things every month. Then life happens and you do nothing for six months or maybe one or two thing a year. We appreciate all members and the gifts they have to share with the chapter and community. The only two requirements are a $50 yearly membership dues that we then pay to the state for your membership in our organization and that you be 18 years old or older. Currently our youngest member is 18 and our oldest is 80 something. You do not need to live in New Hope to Join. We have members from all over the community. Everyone has something to share and all are welcome.

Our New Three Year Priority Project is Breaking Free

Breaking Free's Mission
To educate and provide services to women and girls who have been victims of abuse and commercial sexual exploitation (prostitution/sex trafficking) and need assistance escaping the violence in their lives.

How can you help?
  1. Go to the Breaking Free website at http://www.breakingfree.net to learn more about the great things they do to help women.
  1. Save your change. At each general meeting this year, I will be collecting change to support Breaking Free.

Thanks, Teddy
